Glacier National Park: July 2012

Take a look at these pics from the Migrant Highlanders July 2012 trip to Montana and Glacier National Park. I'm not sure that the word "epic" truly does it justice.

If you've got the time, I recommend a trip to Glacier. I'm sure it is a backpacking trek that the Jackal and I will never forget. The R-Dogg will be on the next one for sure!

Jackal

AKA "Nard Dog" & "Light in the Pack" - The Jackal got his moniker by an old friend we met on our very first hike on the AT, Chuck. Andrew's laugh reminds all who hear it of a wild animal laughing hysterically, most of the time at his own jokes. He tends to carry a lighter pack than the other two founders, but makes up for it by carrying the celebratory beers for which Navi and R-Dogg are very appreciative. The Jackal is a master of the hypothetical, which can make for a very nice destraction for the mind on a tough trail.

R-Dogg

AKA "The Barista" & "The Trail Angel" - R-Dogg is the most experienced backpacker in the founding group. He has spent an entire summer working in Yellowstone and has done hundreds of miles of trails in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. With Jackal and Navi taking up much of the available talk time on the trail, R-Dogg plays the "quiet cool" role to perfection. R-Dogg is our resident gear expert, and routinely sports the coolest equipment in the group. He never travels without the french press coffee maker, which pretty much makes him the coolest camper around on most chilly mornings.

Navi purchased the Moutain Hardware Pinole 20 Degree mummy sleeping bag this winter on Amazon for $79 (free shipping). This 2010 Camping Life category winner is quite simply "awesome". I slept 10 straight hours, snoring like a freight train (said the Jackal) in temperatures that got down to 6 degrees. We were sleeping on a couple inches of snow, but the 20 degree bag performed without fault with the aide of a fleece liner. At only 3 lbs and stuffing down to the size of a small watermelon, the bag perfectly fit in the Bear Pack. But I had ample room to move around within the bag. Navi tested; Migrant Highlander Approved.
